El Pantanal - Leaving Puerto Suarez

Robore

We say farewell to El Tumbador. To the hosts and to the small fauna that accompanied us in our room.

Now the course is toward the west. Before going aboard in the return flight in Santa Cruz we will go through Robore. The route offers a devastating panorama of the changes and its costs that the region suffers in the name of modernization. Among the puffs of dust that raises every time when heavy trucks pass by the bus we can see piles of trees stored along the road.

Robore offers the possibility to take a breath, although the shade of the night not even promises to refresh. It will be tomorrow when we will go to visit the surroundings, letting us captivate by the treasures offered by the nature of Aguas Calientes. Already at dusk, still with the images of a sun hung from the sky flickering from the heat we leave Santiago de los Chiquitos behind - a village whose last moments of calm the future highway will take away.

Our visit to Santa Cruz was traumatic enough to bring forward our flight to La Paz. We already travel through a well-known route. This time trafficking our memories through the outpost in El Desaguadero. It is one of the emblematic places with respect to the smuggling at great scale. Our set of memories and a can of coca leaves is banal enough to go unnoticed in front of tons of sugar sacks that make every day their route crossing the Titicaca lake.
